Trade Copiers for NinjaTrader Compared: Built-In Options, Paid Add-Ons and Free Tools

NinjaTrader 8 doesn't copy trades on its own, so every multi-account trader picks a tool. In-platform add-ons, cloud copiers and Tradovate's own Group Trade compared on four things that matter on prop accounts: where they run, ratios, what happens when the PC stops, and cost.

Trade Copiers for NinjaTrader Compared: Built-In Options, Paid Add-Ons and Free Tools

NinjaTrader 8 has no built-in trade copier. NinjaTrader support said so on its old user forum, the account groups that NinjaTrader 7 had didn't make it into version 8, and the release notes up to 8.1.8 add nothing of the kind. Anyone trading the same idea on several prop accounts picks a third-party tool, and the choice comes down to a few questions about design rather than features.

The first four tools below install as add-ons inside NinjaTrader, and the rest run in Tradovate's own platform, in the cloud or as a separate app; if NinjaTrader itself is new, NinjaTrader 8 chart setup comes first. Whether copying is allowed at all is a firm-by-firm rule, covered in prop firm trade copier rules.

Four questions that separate them

  1. Where does it run? An in-platform add-on lives inside NinjaTrader and copies only while the platform is up. A cloud copier runs on the vendor's servers and talks to the broker directly, so it keeps going with your PC off.
  2. What protects the followers if it stops? A copier that places each follower's own stop and target at the broker leaves each follower with a working stop when the copier dies, although if NinjaTrader links the two as an OCO pair, that link lives on the PC and both can fill. One that copies exits as market orders leaves followers exposed until someone notices, the risk described in what happens when NinjaTrader disconnects.
  3. Does it support ratios? Copying 1 NQ on a large account to 5 MNQ on a smaller one needs a multiplier or an NQ-to-MNQ cross. A 1:1 copier needs every account traded at the same size.
  4. Can it cross connections? Tradovate-based and Rithmic-based accounts can sit in one NinjaTrader instance, but not every tool copies between them, and some can't group accounts from different firms at all.

The paid NinjaTrader add-ons and most cloud services offer a 7-day trial, which is enough to test the one thing worth testing: kill NinjaTrader with a position open on a simulation account and see what the followers are left with.

Tradovate Group Trade deserves a separate note because it's already there on Tradovate-based accounts. It groups accounts under one ticket in Tradovate's own platform, but only accounts under the same Tradovate login, which in practice means one firm. Apex and Tradeify both note in their help centers that ATM bracket orders don't work in group mode, which leaves stops to be placed by hand.

Free NinjaTrader copiers beyond the WotT one exist on the NinjaTrader Ecosystem's user app share, some of them indicators that copy market orders after the master fills. They're worth a look for a two-account setup and worth testing hard before trusting with more.

The WotT TradeCopier is my own tool, free, and it sits in the table on the same terms as the others; setting it up is covered step by step, and the download is on its tool page.

The firm's rules come first

At the time of writing, Apex Trader Funding allows copying across your own funded accounts and forbids copying with other traders. Tradeify allows group trading only between accounts you own and manage. Lucid permits trade copiers and bans hedging across accounts. Topstep accounts now trade only on TopstepX, which has its own copier for Trading Combine and Express Funded accounts, so NinjaTrader copiers don't apply there. Firms also cap how many funded accounts one household can hold, 20 at Apex and 5 at Lucid at the time of writing, the subject of multiple prop firm accounts.

Matching the tool to the setup

  • Same size on every account, one connection, budget zero: an in-platform 1:1 copier that keeps followers' stops at the broker.
  • Different account sizes or NQ on one account and MNQ on others: a paid add-on with multipliers and crosses.
  • Copying must survive the PC being off, or accounts span providers: a cloud copier, at a monthly cost and with your broker logins on someone else's servers.
  • All accounts on Tradovate with one firm, stops placed manually: Tradovate Group Trade.
